Location IP Management
Overview
Section titled “Overview”Location IP Management allows you to control which IP addresses can access your specific location in LogCentral. This security feature helps you restrict access to authorized networks only, adding an extra layer of protection to your log data.
What is IP Management?
Section titled “What is IP Management?”IP Management is a security feature that creates an allowlist (whitelist) of IP addresses permitted to send logs to your location. When enabled, only requests from approved IP addresses will be accepted, while all other attempts will be blocked.
Key benefits:
- Enhanced security for your log data
- Control over which networks can access your location
- Protection against unauthorized log submissions
- Compliance with security policies requiring IP restrictions
Accessing IP Management
Section titled “Accessing IP Management”To manage IP addresses for your location:
- Navigate to your organization dashboard
- Select the location you want to manage
- Access the IP Management section using the route:
/organizations/:orgId/locations/:locationId/ip-management
Note that :orgId and :locationId in the route will be replaced with your actual organization and location identifiers.
Common Use Cases
Section titled “Common Use Cases”Restricting Access to Office Networks
Section titled “Restricting Access to Office Networks”If your logs should only come from your company’s office locations, you can add those specific IP addresses or ranges to ensure logs are only accepted from authorized networks.
Multi-Location Organizations
Section titled “Multi-Location Organizations”For organizations with multiple physical locations, you can configure different IP allowlists for each location based on where logs should originate.
Development vs. Production Environments
Section titled “Development vs. Production Environments”Set up different IP restrictions for development and production locations to maintain separation between environments and ensure production logs only come from production infrastructure.
Compliance Requirements
Section titled “Compliance Requirements”Many security and compliance frameworks require IP-based access controls. IP Management helps you meet these requirements by restricting log submission to approved sources.
Important Considerations
Section titled “Important Considerations”Location Status: IP Management is available for active locations. The location details page provides information about your location’s current status and configuration.
Server Assignment: Each location is assigned to a specific server (referenced by assigned_server_id in the system). IP restrictions apply to that server endpoint.
Port Configuration: Locations have designated ports for log collection. Ensure your IP allowlist includes addresses that will connect to your location’s assigned port.
